Before becoming a web developer, I worked for nineteen years in the securities industry for a couple of Wall Street firms, where I was fortunate to have the opportunity to develop my computer skills by attending in-house classes and working with talented individuals. I continued to develop my tech skills, on-the-job, by applying what I had learned to automate customized client billing using Excel with macros written in Visual Basic. I helped to increase productivity and improve recordkeeping by designing and implementing databases using DataEase and MS Access. I found I had a knack for database design and enhanced my knowledge by studying relational database design and server-side technologies at New York University.
As someone who knew the business end with an interest in technology, I was frequently chosen to represent the business unit to work with business analysts, technical relationship managers, and programmers in the development and testing of major system conversions, including Y2K preparation and the Euro currency conversion. In my spare time, I designed web sites, always striving to expand my knowledge of web-based technologies. I left banking in 2002 to turn my part-time passion for web design and programming, into a full-time occupation.
I created the online museum and humor site, The Toilet Museum in 1998. The Toilet Museum has been reviewed in numerous print and online magazines, and I've been interviewed on radio about the site by The Associated Press National Radio Service and the Sydney Broadcasting System. The Toilet Museum appears in the Lagoon Books publication, 500 of the Weirdest & Wackiest Web Sites.
I am webmaster and/or have contributed programming and database design for several web sites. Among my clients are DLC Management, Arcanna, Port Jersey Logistics, The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities, Bittersweetmusik, The Klezmatics, Whirligig, Lisa Gutkin, Patrick Mangan, and James Keane. You'll find links to some samples of my work on the design page.
I have experience with the following programming languages, markup languages, and technologies: ASP, PHP, XML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, VB Script, SQL, and PERL. My computer application skills include Macromedia Homesite, Macromedia Dreamweaver, CuteFTP, MySQL, MS Visual Studio, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, MS Powerpoint, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Real Producer, Goldwave.
I live in New York City.
